Limekiln Wood
Limekiln Wood is home to some of the most complex geology in the Wrekin Forest and, consequently has a soil profile that is equally varied. Over 150 plant species have been recorded in these woodlands, which are some of the most floristically diverse in the county. In the northeast corner of the wood, you’ll find the remains of the limekilns that once exploited the areas natural resources during the industrialisation of east Shropshire. Long redundant, they nevertheless provide a fascinating link to the past but one that should be explored with great care.
