Chermes Dingle
Chermes Dingle is one of a number of stream valleys that flow southwards from The Wrekin to the River Severn. Wet woodlands can be extremely rich in wildlife but the dingle, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), has earned its stripes as a result of its geological heritage. The sedimentary mudstone underlying the dell was formed in deeps seas around 480 million years ago and has a fossil-rich legacy so profound many early marine species were first described from examples discovered here.
